Council staff reported progress on multiple workstreams toward a Tree Management Plan and ordinance updates. Completed items include the tree assessment report, benefits analysis and a multi-decade canopy assessment; the Management Plan is in process and will include recommended canopy goals, maintenance standards, budget estimates and outreach strategies.
A consultant is reviewing and rewriting ordinance sections related to Urban Forest, Landscaping and Sidewalks; staff said an external-facing Tree Committee and an internal Landscape Committee are developing recommendations. Training items noted that six city employees completed national Community Forestry training and two employees have been invited to certified arborist training.
Staff said the plan and ordinances will be refined and adopted between February and May 2026 and that staff will identify funding in the FY27 budget cycle and beyond. The presentation framed the Management Plan and ordinance work as necessary to implement the canopy and inventory recommendations.
