The Planning Commission approved street-name requests for phase 1 of the Medway section of the Laurel Bay development and recommended reserving additional names for later phases.
Staff explained the developer requested names for three streets needed for phase 1 and sought to reserve a total of seven names for the overall development. "The developer is requesting, for phase 1 of Medway within the Laurel Bay development, 3 streets that they need names for at this time," staff said, adding that the full list of seven had been reviewed by Berkeley County and that three of the names (Turnstone, Brick Hollow, Rolling Fork) also exist in Charleston County and could cause confusion if used without coordination.
Commissioners expressed concern about potential GPS and mapping confusion and preferred to approve a smaller set now while staff helps check county availability. The commission moved to approve and recommend Trade Water, Rivanna, Charter Pine and Knoll Creek for the street-name requests, the motion was seconded and carried.
