Board denies 10‑inch height variance request at 408 Indigo Road
Summary
The Board of Zoning Appeals denied a 10‑inch height variance sought by Jason Matthews for an accessory structure at 408 Indigo Road. Staff said personal vehicle lifts are not prohibited for private use but the board found the variance criteria unmet.

Jason Matthews told the board the accessory structure’s 17 ft 3 in height reflects the needs of a pre‑engineered building and a 4‑post car lift he intends to use for personal vehicle maintenance and temporary boat storage.
"I bought a 4 post drive on car lift so I can service my cars and do my own oil changes," Matthews said, adding that when the lift is not in use he plans to store a boat on top to create parking space. Steph, representing staff, said zoning does not necessarily prohibit a personal vehicle lift but that home occupations for vehicle repairs would be regulated differently.
Board members questioned whether the proposed height would be consistent with neighborhood character. One member cited a lack of extraordinary and exceptional conditions and moved to deny the height variance. The motion carried and the height variance was denied.
