Commissioners praise veterans reentry program, honor Life Flight on 50th anniversary

Commissioner Ramsey introduced a resolution lauding the Harris County Sheriffs Brothers in Arms program and recounted program results, saying that "in 1 or 2 cases, it's over 1,000,000 dollars of benefits that some of these folks have been identified," describing how benefits counseling can materially change a returning veteran's prospects.
Major Tanya Mills of the Detention Management Bureau thanked the court and described the program as "outstanding" with a staff committed to connecting veterans to services, housing and benefits. Selena Diaz and other reentry staff described a pilot that offers 12 months of supportive housing and wraparound services that program staff said have changed lives.
The court also adopted ceremonial resolutions recognizing Prairie View A&M University's anniversary and Life Flight's contribution to trauma care; a representative from Life Flight thanked the court for the recognition. The items were handled as part of the resolutions package and were approved by the court during the meeting.
