Design Workshop presented Phase 2 of a citywide Land Use & Development Code update to the South Salt Lake City Planning Commission on May 7, 2026, saying the effort will align zoning with state statutes and the City’s General Plan. Jessica Garrow, principal‑in‑charge for Design Workshop, said the project is moving from analysis to community engagement and that “adoption and implementation were scheduled for summer 2027.”
The consultants and staff outlined 12 priority topic areas — including housing, parking, transit‑oriented development, downtown form‑based code, adaptive reuse, engineering and street section standards, landscaping, and sustainability incentives — and described a three‑window engagement program featuring a project website, pulse surveys, focus groups, stakeholder interviews and pop‑up events. The team said the City Council will receive a shorter project introduction on May 13, 2026, and staff work sessions and a Code Audit memo are next steps in the 18‑month schedule.
