Had it not been for him, I wouldn't be here today,” referring to her great‑great‑grandfather Joseph Wallace. The board also recognized National Senior Center Month, with Commission on Aging chair Harriet Yaffe and senior‑center representatives describing programs that reduce social isolation and promote wellbeing.
Maryland’s Diaper Bank representatives described local diaper‑drive and fundraising efforts during Diaper Need Awareness Week. Separately, the board presented an August employee‑of‑the‑month award to animal control officer Hannah Neal for an animal‑welfare investigation and presented a team excellence award to Southern Pines staff who performed CPR and helped save a participant’s life in June.
