SHA says Skipjack intersection and Md.231 corridor designs advancing; federal match uncertainty remains

State Highway Administration District Engineer Kimberly Tran told the board SHA remains committed to multimodal safety work, highlighting recent crosswalk upgrades and newly installed rumble strips at local intersections. Tran described work on the Md.231 corridor — design is being finalized and right‑of‑way acquisition will soon begin for several segments.
Tran said two of the three tracked Calvert County projects are HSIP eligible and therefore may access additional federal safety funds, but cautioned that a state match will still be required for construction. “We do have funding to finish design and we do have funding for right of way,” she said, noting the county and SHA continue to coordinate on schedules and potential deferrals if full construction funding is not available.
Commissioners requested more details about signal timing in Prince Frederick and a crosswalk request in Dunkirk; SHA staff described the district traffic office process for traffic studies, including counts, observation and federal signal warrants, and committed to follow up with scheduling and design information.
