Manager reports sewer-project progress, schedules meeting on effluent piping to Great Salt Lake

Staff reported progress on the Village Boulevard sewer project, explained that a suspected Lake Point leak was irrigation-related rather than a district break, and said he is arranging a meeting with Sovereign Lands, the Great Salt Lake Water Commission and DEQ to discuss piping wastewater effluent to the Great Salt Lake.
District manager Brett Palmer updated the board on operations and capital projects, including sewer construction and stakeholder outreach about wastewater piping.
Palmer said the Village Boulevard sewer project is progressing: contractors have installed two sections and are taking precautions to ensure pipe slope and alignment. He reported a suspected leak at Lake Point was investigated and determined to be caused by Kennicott Canal flood irrigation overflowing into drainage, not a district pipe break.
Palmer said he has requested a meeting with representatives from Sovereign Lands, the Great Salt Lake Water Commission and the Department of Environmental Quality to discuss routing wastewater effluent to the Great Salt Lake and will report back at the next meeting. He also said the district submitted its capital facilities plan to financial staff and is awaiting comments.
Board members asked for clarity about discharge-point options and suggested the minutes note that the ultimate point of discharge must account for fluctuating lake levels. No formal vote was taken on the sewer-expansion project during the meeting.
