Commission champion for yard beautification (referred to in the meeting) reviewed the nomination process and timeline: nominations are open now through June 30, nominators should upload a photo with their submission, and winners will be chosen at the July commission meeting with awards acknowledged at an August city council meeting.
The champion said the commission typically places nomination signs in winners' yards and has rarely received complaints, but commissioners discussed adding an opt-out option on the nomination form for residents who do not want signs. "By the time we went out and took photos, maybe the yard didn't look like it did when the person nominated it," the champion noted, explaining why the group now asks nominators to include a current photo.
Staff said a digital copy of the nomination form will be shared with the Chamber of Commerce and that paper copies will be available at the farmers market and other community outlets to boost participation.
