Public works staff recommended Choice 1 Engineering for design and specifications for a new Chambersburg Road–Fishburg asphalt bike path that will connect to chambersburg widening work and continue to the Great Miami River Trail.
Russ explained the design will produce an 11-foot concrete bike path or sidewalk on the north side of Chambersburg Road, continuing west and ultimately connecting to Rip Rap and the regional trail. He told council the Choice 1 quote was $137,607 (the low of three quotes) and recommended a not-to-exceed amount of $160,000 to cover the design contract.
The project is funded through Transportation Alternatives (MVRPC TA) federal funding and will proceed through an ODOT/MVRPC process that includes three ODOT review stages and an environmental study; staff estimated it will be about four years before the project is constructed because of the federal funding timeline. Council asked about the design schedule and federal review steps and raised no objections to advancing the contract recommendation to the Monday agenda for formal authorization.
