Commissioners unanimously reject $390,000 offer for county-owned foster care house

The Mountrail County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Jan. 13, 2026 to reject an offer of $390,000 for a county-owned house at 2 Valley Dr. in Stanley. Commissioner John DeGroot moved to reject the offer; Commissioner Joan Hollekim seconded. Upon roll call Hollekim, Trudy Ruland (chairman), Jason Rice, Wayne Olson and DeGroot voted yes, and the motion carried. The board recorded that closing costs of $8,000 had been proposed to be paid by the county.
State's Attorney Wade Enget told the board the sale involved a 6% commission to Reynolds Realty. Auditor Stephanie A. Pappa described the written offer for $390,000 and noted the county would be asked to cover closing costs. Following the vote the board instructed that all offers be submitted in writing, as recommended by State's Attorney Enget, and said the offers will be discussed again at the commissioners' regular meeting on Jan. 20, 2026 at 9:00 A.M. The meeting convened at 8:00 A.M. and adjourned at 8:08 A.M.
