Vernon County Board shortens minimum time for submitting resolutions to seven days

The Vernon County Board of Supervisors voted April 18 to adopt Resolution 2023-30, an amendment to paragraph 5 a. of the County Board Rules that adjusts the timeline for submitting resolutions, petitions and ordinances so materials are submitted "to the County Clerk at least fourteen (14) days, but not less than seven (7) days, before the published meeting date." The motion to adopt was made by Supv Taylor and seconded by Supv Olson; Chair Lorn Goede called the question and the motion carried on a voice vote with all voting in favor.
Proponents said the change is intended to ensure the Board, the media and the public have adequate time to review meeting materials. Resolution 2023-31 was withdrawn at the meeting. The resolution language enacted the seven-day minimum while preserving the prior 14-day preference.
The amendment will take effect as part of the County Board rules; the minutes and the signed resolution appear at the end of the official meeting record. The Board continues to require committee-signed reports for committee-originated resolutions per the rule language.
