Administrator Roger E. Riley said the freeze will allow staff to evaluate open positions and potentially free up funds, with a re-evaluation planned in about three months. "This strategy would help the situation," Chairman Freddie L. Houston Sr. said, adding that no one is exempt from budget changes.
Council discussed targeted reductions to equipment, travel and training budgets to reduce expenses quickly; Treasurer Sandy Cochran offered to share department-level breakdowns showing current cuts. The council expects a final budget proposal at the June 9 meeting.
