Douglas County reaffirms 2025 priorities, directs staff to align 2026 budget

Douglas County’s Committee of the Whole met Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, and confirmed the county’s mission and the six established priorities that will guide budgeting and policy work for the coming year. The priorities listed in the record are: 1) public safety; 2) sustainable infrastructure investment; 3) professionalism, service and efficiency; 4) responsible development; 5) natural resources; and 6) compassion. The committee directed staff to prepare the 2026 budget in alignment with these priorities.
The committee’s direction followed an agenda item that included an overview of financial materials distributed with the agenda and department managers’ submitted challenges and opportunities for 2026. The record shows the committee taking no formal amendment to the priorities; instead, members instructed staff to use the stated priorities as the framework for next year’s budget development.
