Hutto approves nearly $986,300 in full‑depth repairs for Old Town streets

The Hutto City Council unanimously approved a $986,268.50 contract with Bennett Paving Incorporated to perform full‑depth pavement repairs in the Old Town District, including Live Oak Street, Hutto Street, West Metcalfe, Liberty and Church Streets.

Council members stressed the need for a transparent resident‑notification plan and a street‑by‑street construction sequence before mobilization. “I’d like to ask that council receives, start timing and a clear communication plan for the affected residents,” one councilmember said, urging methods beyond social media (door hangers, mailed notices, certified letters). Public Works staff explained the contractor expects notice to proceed in early July, will submit a traffic control plan within two weeks, and estimated that most streets (except Live Oak) could be completed in roughly 3–4 days each, weather permitting.

Public Works Director Rick Coronado told the council the project’s 90‑day calendar window is the contractor’s planned work period and that Live Oak will be the initial priority because of preparatory work already performed. The contractor will coordinate with ESD and TxDOT as needed for right‑of‑way impacts.

What happens next: staff will request the traffic control plan from Bennett Paving, circulate a street sequencing schedule to council and begin resident notifications once those materials are approved; construction is tentatively scheduled to start in early July with the goal of finishing in the fall.
