County Administrator David Schaeffer and consultant Todd Dickerson of WestErie led a continuation of Kalkaska County’s community strategic-planning forum on March 17, 2025, urging broader public participation and next steps for the countywide plan. Chair Kohn Fisher opened the special meeting at 5:00 PM at the Kaliseum conference room.
Dickerson distributed an Intake Form summarizing goals, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and said the Strategic Plan could be integrated with the County Masterplan and the Parks & Rec Masterplan. County Administrator David Schaeffer said he would expand outreach: "I will put a survey on social media, print surveys to place around the County, and on the County website," and said a countywide mailing may be possible to reach residents who did not attend the February forum. The board set the next forum for April 21, 2025 at 5:00 PM in the Kaliseum conference room.
The Intake Form added local institutions such as the hospital and schools to the strengths list, and identified weaknesses including roads and limited public-transportation options. The meeting emphasized combining staff and community groups to gather input and to refine priorities before recommending formal actions to the board.
