Sheriff Hutchinson introduces new deputies and allocates Back the Blue grant awards

Sheriff Roger Hutchinson introduced three new deputies to the commissioners and discussed staffing and training needs. James Burton started full-time Nov. 1; Matthew Aberle started full-time Nov. 10; and Christopher Slade began Nov. 10 as a part-time deputy. Hutchinson also reported on a new patrol vehicle and said he is looking at updated civil fee schedules for 2026.
The board approved the sheriff's recommended Back the Blue grant disbursements at the Dec. 16 meeting. "Moved by Comm. Haman, second by Comm. Hansen to approve the Back the Blue grant award amounts as follows: Sheriff Roger Hutchinson, Deputy Ryder Donohue and Deputy Alex Cook, $3,000.00 each; Deputy Adam Siegrist, $1,593.99; Deputy Justice McKenna, $1,593.99 plus $500.00 for Deputy of the Year award," the minutes record. The awards were granted by unanimous vote and the sheriff said he based amounts on years of service.
Hutchinson also discussed training (an ICE training program and civil fees training already attended by a deputy) and presented an estimate from CompCam for door fobs on department and new building doors; the board approved the estimate with the removal of the courthouse front doors from the work.
