During the public hearing on the proposed 2024 budget, three members of the public urged supervisors to restore funding for watershed projects. Eric Weninger of Cashton asked the board to "reconsider funding the line item for the Watershed project." Sidney Lidell, identified in the record as the watershed coordinator with the Coon Creek Community Watershed Council, also spoke in favor of restoring funding. Tim Hunt of Viroqua added a similar appeal for reinstating those project funds.
The hearing record notes Vernon County has previously supported watershed efforts using Ho-Chunk funds; after calling for any other comments three times, Chair Lorn Goede closed the public hearing. The budget later adopted by the board reallocates and prioritizes several funding streams, including a separate allocation of Ho-Chunk funds approved under Resolution 2023-70.
