Animal Advocates recounts past prison program and adoption pathways as shelter plan advances

During the Barnwell County workshop, Ms. Vickie Scott described past programs that supported animal training and adoption, including a prison partnership that she said placed roughly 50 animals at Allendale Correctional Facility.
Ms. Scott said the prison program operated for about 10 years and that it closed for a combination of administrative changes and the COVID pandemic. She added that adoptions also occur informally, sometimes through word of mouth and out-of-area adopters; adopters receive a file on the animal and are encouraged to share it with their veterinarian.
