Vernon County adopts five-year Multi-Hazards Mitigation Plan; emergency management grants recorded

The Board adopted the 2023–2028 Multi-Hazards Mitigation Plan and approved a budget amendment to record three reimbursable emergency management grants totaling $63,607.34.
Vernon County adopted its five-year Multi-Hazards Mitigation Plan (2023–2028) on Oct. 19, fulfilling a condition for future mitigation grant funding and following FEMA guidance, Emergency Management Director Brandon Larson told the Board.
Separately, the Board also adopted Resolution 2023-65, amending the 2023 Emergency Management Grant Fund (95) to add $63,607.34 in revenue and expenses to account for three reimbursable grants: $44,811.90 (Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission), $16,545.44 (HERC) and $2,250.00 (HMEP). Larson emphasized that much of emergency management work is planning and preparedness rather than continuous response.
The Multi-Hazards Mitigation Plan adoption was unanimous on a voice vote; the grant-related budget amendment also passed on a voice vote.
