Animal Advocates offers multi-year grant to fund staff for Barnwell intake center

At the June 9 Barnwell County workshop, representatives of Animal Advocates described a Master Grant Agreement that would provide multi-year operating support for the proposed intake facility.
According to the workshop discussion, the grant would run on the county fiscal year and could fund up to 10 full-time county positions. Staff explained the county would begin the annual programming process on March 1: the County Administrator initiates communication with Animal Advocates about staffing and needs so the funds can be included in the upcoming budget cycle. The transcript records that Animal Advocates has agreed to provide the grant for at least three years and possibly five.
Council members asked about the total funds available from the voter-approved sales tax; the workshop record states that the amount from the CPST is around $1.8 million. Ms. Vickie Scott, President of Animal Advocates, told the Council the nonprofit would support the project "as long as the funds will allow."
