Commissioners adopt home-rule charter, set resolution for June ballot

Traill County Commissioners on March 17 approved adoption of a home-rule charter and directed staff to place a resolution on the June ballot. The motion, made by Commissioner Nesvig and seconded by Commissioner Young, passed on a roll-call vote with Commissioners Eblen, Elliott, Nesvig, Amb and Young voting aye.
The board also directed Auditor Heather Hovey to prepare a Q&A document addressing questions raised at a March 16 charter meeting in Hillsboro to help inform voters before the ballot measure. Commissioner Nesvig had earlier requested that Home Rule be added to the agenda on March 17, which led to the formal adoption and the instruction to prepare voter-facing materials.
