The Vernon County Board on Jan. 26 approved Resolution 2023-03 to permit Vernon County to be listed as a partner on a Vernon County Energy District application to the Wisconsin Office of Energy Innovation and the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. The Energy District may be eligible for an additional $50,000 in funding if the county signs on as a partner.
Al Buss presented the measure, explaining the coalition approach enables access to greater funding for projects including energy efficiency, renewable energy and storage. Expected coalition partners identified during the meeting include the Village of LaFarge, Village of Viola, Kickapoo School District, City of Viroqua and the Town of Stark. Supervisor Stanek moved adoption and the measure passed on a unanimous voice vote.
County participation does not commit local matching funds in the resolution text; it authorizes listing Vernon County on the application to increase project competitiveness. The Energy District will use any grant to explore and implement projects intended to benefit Vernon County residents.
