Vernon County Veteran’s Service Officer Crystal Knoll updated the board on the office’s workload and impact during the June 20 meeting. Knoll said the county has roughly a 7% veteran population and that 117 active claims were being worked in the past six months; 97 claims remain open and 21 were decided, yielding $1,583,498 in retroactive payments.
Knoll said the passage of the PACT Act contributed to a large increase in veterans seeking services and that Vernon County veterans received $9,325,000 in 2021. She said she will request funding for an additional staff position to handle increased caseloads and is the county delegate when the national association meets.
