Vernon County adopted an amendment to its Farmland Preservation Plan on Aug. 15 so that residents of the Town of Hamburg remain eligible for the Farmland Preservation Tax Credit. County Conservationist Ben Wojahn explained that some towns, including Hamburg, have adopted farmland-preservation zoning and that a county plan update is necessary to maintain eligibility under the program.
The resolution records the county’s support for local decision-making and property-rights protections in preserving farmland and was adopted by voice vote. County staff said the change is largely an administrative plan amendment to align county planning with town ordinances and state program requirements.
