Barnwell Council moves to acquire Animal Advocates property, approves grant agreement and hears shelter update

Barnwell County Council voted on resolutions June 9 to move forward with acquiring Animal Advocates’ property and to accept a master grant agreement to support operations of a county-run animal adoption center. Earlier in the meeting Toni Hutchins, speaking for the Barnwell Animal Shelter, outlined committee goals including fundraising, increasing foster capacity, staging adoption events, boosting social media, reestablishing vaccine clinics and microchipping, and revising the shelter ordinance. Hutchins said a June event was canceled because of parvovirus and that "June was a fee reduction month to try and adopt more animals." Council members also nominated community members to fill board seats for the shelter during the meeting.
