Barnwell County Council on June 9 approved an amended budget ordinance to fund county operations and debt service for the fiscal year July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. Councilman Alexander moved to amend the ordinance to reflect changes since the second reading; Councilman Hooper seconded the amendment, which passed 6 For, 0 Against, 1 Absent.
After adopting the amendment, Councilman Alexander moved that the council approve the amended budget; Councilman Cruz seconded and the motion again passed on a recorded vote of 6 For, 0 Against, 1 Absent. Chairman Freddie L. Houston Sr. thanked Administrator Riley and staff for their work on the budget process. The ordinance sets the county’s revenue and spending plan for the coming fiscal year; specific line-item changes referenced during the meeting will be reflected in the final adopted budget documents.
