County to pursue ITRRR grant and match for West End salt‑sand shed; board provides support
Summary
Cook County highway staff will apply for an ITRRR grant to build a salt‑sand shed at the Toffty Shop after MnDOT declined to renew a lease; the project is estimated at about $300,000 with a required 1:1 match and the board approved a resolution to support the application and accept funds if awarded.

Highway staff told the board MnDOT is not renewing the lease on the West End salt‑sand storage site and that roughly one-third of county roads are serviced from that location. Staff are pursuing an ITRRR grant that requires a 1:1 match and estimated a total project cost in the $300,000 range, with $150,000 requested from ITRRR and $150,000 from the county project reserve. "They require a 1 to 1 match," the presenter said.
Commissioners discussed site placement behind the county recycle center and commended staff for expediting the application due to a short MnDOT timeline. Commissioner Sullivan moved to approve resolution support for the application and acceptance upon award; the motion passed unanimously.
