The Cook County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved new job descriptions for a social services manager and lead case manager positions as part of a reorganization of the Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) Department. Alice, speaking for PHHS staff, said the proposal would “take those 3 supervisor positions and kind of split up the duties between that manager and then the lead positions.”
Grace, who added operational detail, told the board the lead case managers would still carry caseloads while serving as the day-to-day mentors, and the social services manager would focus on policy and legal compliance. Commissioners asked for examples of daily questions that would be escalated; Grace said lead workers would handle troubleshooting and field practice while the manager would “provide an increased level of oversight for departmental policies, procedures, ensuring that we continue to be in compliance with all of the statutes that guide case management.” The motion was made by Commissioner Sullivan and passed unanimously.
