Captain James reported an uptick in vehicle break-ins in early December, including a stolen 9mm from an unsecured vehicle in the 1400 block of Kentwood and suspicious activity on Woodside Drive. He said detectives are investigating and that similar incidents occurred elsewhere in Charleston, suggesting a wider pattern.
"Please, please, please lock your car doors," Captain James said, urging residents to secure vehicles and property. He described a warrant service that led to a pursuit (naming Timothy Brinson as the wanted person) and noted a December 16 high-speed pursuit involving a silver Corvette. The captain said the deputy who had been a longtime town deputy, Chris King, accepted a transfer to a regional CRU (crime reduction unit) focused on gangs and violent crime; King's transfer is effective Dec. 26, and the department has identified Deputy Taryn Boot as a local replacement.
Council thanked the sheriff's personnel for the annual turkey drive and other community engagement efforts. The report included routine prevention reminders and an explicit appeal for residents to secure homes and vehicles while detectives continue active investigations.
