Valerie used the dashboard report to recognize several staff accomplishments. She announced that Andy Cieslak, the new plant manager, obtained his professional operator certification; Joe Russell received the Kentucky‑Tennessee AWA operator award for Tennessee; Brandon Goodman and Leanna were selected for the Water Professional Leadership Academy; the TopHawks team (the Aquaholics) won a regional competition and will attend ACE in San Diego; and new operator Ava is completing an environmental‑science work study at Middle Tennessee State University while working nights.
Valerie also announced that John submitted an official notice of retirement effective August 5 after more than 33 years with the department; staff will host a retirement event in the boardroom and circulate invitations. Finally, Valerie encouraged board members to consider attending the Utility Management Conference in Vancouver next year and noted registration opens in September and some sessions may count toward continuing education.
The board offered congratulations to the staff recognized and noted plans for the retirement event; no votes were required for recognitions or the conference discussion.
