County approves Gold Star Families Memorial agreement; widow outlines memorial concept

Jenny Taylor, Gold Star widow and leader of the Major Brent Taylor Foundation, presented the Gold Star Families Memorial concept and described the memorial as a non-personalized tribute to families of those who died in service, noting "what's beautiful about this monument to me is that there's not a single name on it." The foundation plans to work with Whitaker Construction and the Woody Williams Foundation and aims for construction and a dedication in October 2026.
Commissioner (speaker 5) told the commission the foundation and volunteers have committed materials and labor, including concrete donations, and moved to approve the Gold Star Memorial agreement (26-09). The motion was seconded and passed. The county will coordinate with buildings and grounds and accept private donations to complete the memorial; no county-funded construction was described at the meeting.
