Board approves law-enforcement purchases, grant applications and dispatcher hiring freeze lift

During its Feb. 19 meeting the Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners approved several public-safety purchases and grant applications and lifted a hiring freeze to allow the Sheriff to fill a dispatcher vacancy.
Motions approved included authorization for the Sheriff to apply for the 2025/2026 ORV, ORV Safety, Marine and Snowmobile Grants through the DNR and to apply for the 2025/2026 Secondary Road Patrol Grant through MCOLES. The board approved purchase of a 2025 Trailblazer from Berger Chevrolet for a price not to exceed $25,000; Livescan fingerprint equipment (fingerprint computer $17,506 and laptop $7,342) totaling $24,848 to be paid from jail funding; and a modified EPS agreement for $17,000.99 to be charged to the County Wide Improvement Fund. Resolution 2025-03 lifting the hiring freeze for a full-time dispatcher passed 6–0 with one absence.
