Renville County seeks Flex Funding for two major road projects totaling about $7.5 million

On Aug. 19, 2025 the Renville County Board approved submitting two Flex Funding Grant applications to cover large-scale road work. Wold Engineering presented the grant proposals: (1) County Road #1 (3 miles) and County Road #9 South (pavement) (9 miles) for a mill-and-overlay with an estimated total cost of $3.9 million, to which the county pledged $1,000,000; and (2) County Road #9 South (gravel) (11 miles) including cement tiling, grading and 3 inches of gravel with an estimated cost of $3.6 million, to which the county pledged $700,000. The motion to submit the grant applications was moved by Commissioner Jamee Hansen, seconded by Commissioner Rick Haman, and carried by unanimous vote.
Wold Engineering also noted the county would be responsible for preliminary engineering estimated at approximately $105,000. The projects include preparatory work (for example, tree trimming on Center Avenue prior to the Mouse River Park west access road project), and a preconstruction meeting for the west access road was scheduled for Aug. 20, 2025. The board recorded the county pledges and preliminary engineering obligation in the Aug. 19 minutes.
