Absenteeism drops but remains notable; district to continue recovery work

Paula reviewed chronic absenteeism numbers and said the district saw a decline: "we had a decline of 8.9 percent this year, which means we currently have a percentage of 27.7..." She explained some recovery of average daily attendance (ADA) comes through independent study and Saturday recovery options but said independent-study recovery had been more effective.
A board member compared Acton-Agua Dulce's rate to Palmdale's and found similar levels, and asked staff to include LA County and peer comparisons in public-facing slides so parents do not assume the district is uniquely low-performing. Staff agreed to add county comparisons and school-level trend charts at the next meetings.
