Board approves contracts for insurance, expanded-learning amendment, consultants and tech purchases

At the Aug. 28 special meeting, trustees approved several business and procurement items across business services and student-support programs. Assistant Superintendent Mr. Nguyen summarized an annual SIRMA/insurance renewal with Keenan & Associates not to exceed $209,251 and said the increase over last year is about 2.5 percent.
The board also approved an amended contract for the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program with SanSar (doing business as Sunny Days) to expand capacity from 70 to 90 students; the transcript records an amended contract amount not to exceed $433,500 and states the increase will be paid from ELOP funds. Trustees approved a consultant arrangement to provide an MSW intern stipend of $2,000 per semester (with $1,500 from a U.S. Department of Education mental-health demonstration grant) and authorized a transportation-consultant contract with Lisa Patterson (trainer) up to $30,000, with Patterson’s stated rate of $75 per hour.
District staff also presented routine renewals for the LACOE Best Advantage/HRS financial and HR system subscription and requested purchase of 100 Chromebooks to refresh aging devices. "So again, this is a district annual renewal that covers property and liability for the 25–26 school year," Mr. Nguyen said during the insurance discussion. Trustees approved the business items by majority vote.
