Road foreman reports salt delivery, truck repairs and paving concerns; board OKs small painting project

Allen Alger, Road Foreman, told the Select Board the Highway Department has received all salt for the coming year and that using Barrett’s produced a cost savings of $2.50 per ton compared with Cargill’s bid. He also reported the #19 Mack truck is repaired and cooling well and that a new pin for the excavator was fabricated and the machine is working again.
Board members discussed a $2,500 proposal to paint the Butler building at the Town Garage to match other buildings. Chair Andrea Treadway said the highway budget line lacks funds but there is leftover money elsewhere (bandstand and other lines); the majority of the board gave Les Wood the go-ahead to attempt to line up the $2,500 work. Members also flagged a paving edge issue on North Orwell Road that currently creates a large drop for farm equipment; Alger said the pavement needs to settle and material will be added later to mitigate the drop.
