Fairgrounds users press commission for transparency, oppose stall and rental fee increases

During the public-comment period, Box Elder County residents and fairgrounds users spoke at length about recent communications and proposed fee changes for long-term stall rentals and arena rentals at the county fairgrounds. Chairman Tyler Vincent opened the period by apologizing for confusion and emphasizing that the county has no plan to close the fairgrounds. "The fairgrounds are an asset to the county," Vincent said, and he expressed appreciation for staff and volunteers.

Several people, including Jenny Adams, Scott Warr (long‑term renter), Kent Anderson (long‑time exhibitor), Lola Baker and others, urged the Commission to be transparent about fee changes and to hold an open meeting where costs and data can be shown. Scott Warr said some renters did not receive initial eviction notices and asked the county to discuss safety issues such as horse walkers. McKayla Shannon urged the Commission not to increase fees without supporting data, noting that price increases could limit family participation and harm related businesses. Commissioners listened and acknowledged concerns; no formal action was taken during public comment, but the Commission said staff would continue to engage with fairgrounds stakeholders.
