Bel-Nor board flags sidewalks, ADA and aging housing as near-term priorities

During the June 2 session alderpersons identified sidewalk condition, curbs and streets, ADA accessibility, traffic safety, aging housing stock, property maintenance and vacant properties as key challenges for the strategic plan to address.
Alderpersons used the work session to identify infrastructure and housing issues the strategic plan should prioritize. They singled out sidewalk condition and accessibility, curb and street infrastructure, ADA considerations, and traffic speed and safety as items for inventory and potential investment. Members also raised concerns about aging housing stock, property maintenance needs and affordability for residents who require home repairs.
The Board directed staff to begin inventory work related to streets and sidewalks as part of the initial data-gathering phase for the State of Bel-Nor report. Alderperson Mike Capstick left the meeting at approximately 5:18 p.m., a departure noted by the clerk.
