Planning staff unveils online project-tracking map; updates on Panera, medical offices and downtown projects

Planning staff demonstrated an online plan-tracking map intended as a public communication tool and reference for commissioners. "This map is actually... it's online on the town website," staff said, noting the display pulls GIS layers and project snapshots to show the status of site plans. Staff emphasized the StoryMap is for external communication and that internal project management (permitting and tracking) is managed separately through the town’s Munis system by Tyler Technologies.

As part of the presentation, staff provided short updates on several active projects: Catoctin Corner Building 6 (Panera) is permitted with an occupancy target around Feb. 5; 740 East Spain is under construction as a one‑story oral surgery office with pending utility easements; the 7‑11 site plan will add parking, an enclosure for dumpsters and align with the 32nd Street capital project; Norbo Dental’s site plan is being adjusted to address stormwater/easement requirements with potential reuse of an existing building as a Country Inn in a later phase; Trail’s End’s two mixed‑use buildings include second‑floor apartments (zoning limits apply); and BAR activity touched on façade and artwork approvals downtown.

Staff encouraged commissioners and members of the public to use the online map as a first reference and noted many of the detailed documents (site plans and referrals) remain public records and can be reviewed on request. Commissioners requested the town continue coordinating the StoryMap with internal project management so public-facing information remains current and useful to developers and residents alike.
