City proposes 'Game Day on Main' to turn shuttle riders into downtown visitors

Deputy city manager Joey Dunn presented a plan called Game Day on Main that aims to leverage the city-funded free shuttle to Kyle Field and create an outdoor downtown game-day atmosphere.
"The idea is to create an outdoor game day atmosphere featuring all televised games," Dunn said, outlining a concept that would include large perimeter screens at Palace Theatre and LaSalle Plaza, food and beverage offerings, VIP seating inside partner venues and promotional messaging to encourage visitors to stay in downtown Bryan before and after games.
Dunn reviewed shuttle ridership history, noting the city has offered an off‑campus shuttle for 11 seasons and that average per‑game ridership on the downtown route is roughly 1,000 riders. He said ridership on the downtown route has increased substantially over the last decade and that the city will explore audio messaging on buses, signage and sponsorships to drive return visits and hotel stays in Bryan.
Council members raised contingency questions about bad weather and routing visibility. Dunn said the shade structure at Palace could be upgraded, that indoor venues like the Queen Theatre and local businesses provide alternatives, and that staff will coordinate routing changes and promotional audio to help riders discover downtown.
