Staff reported the police union negotiation concluded with a one-year contract that both sides signed to allow time to assess potential fiscal effects of State Amendment 3 on the November ballot. The City Manager said the contract simplifies previously inconsistent step increases and makes pay-plan steps uniform at 4.5 percent, adds super steps for certain years and includes a 2% cost-of-living adjustment in addition to step increases.
"So what we have here is a 1 year contract... The negotiation also added super steps to years 5 and 11 for officers... The average COLA... is 2%." The City Manager said the contract has been ratified by the union and will be placed on the Aug. 4 council agenda for council action. Councilors thanked the negotiating teams for reaching agreement and noted the one-year approach preserves flexibility depending on the state ballot outcome.
Next steps: staff will place the ratified contract on the Aug. 4 agenda for formal council consideration.
