Board hears plan to track short-term independent study to protect attendance funding

The Chair called the meeting to order and asked staff for updates on instructional continuity and attendance recovery. Tracy, a presenter to the board, told members the pressing issue is how short-term independent study is coded in the student information system: "If you don't change the program, it doesn't change on your monthly attendance report." She said Meadowlark had not consistently switched students into the independent-study program, which can make independent-study attendance appear as unexcused absences when coursework is not returned.
Tracy said the district will bring a monthly attendance report next meeting to quantify how much Average Daily Attendance (ADA) is affected and whether that justifies additional clerical support. She described current clerical tasks (phone follow-ups, Aeries updates) as time-consuming and said cabinet has discussed the workload but has made no decision on creating or reassigning a centralized position.
