County legal staff asked the commission to approve contracts to fill two public‑defender vacancies.
Mike McGinnis of the public defender's office said Lane Huff has been hired to serve under contract for the Box Elder drug court; commissioners approved agreement 2441. The commission also approved agreement 2440 to hire John Rogers as a contracted public defense attorney for district court, with an anticipated start date of Dec. 1 when the prior attorney leaves. Commissioners noted these are local hires and welcomed the continuity in service.
"We just asked the commission to go ahead and approve that contract," McGinnis said of the Lane Huff appointment; both motions carried without recorded opposition.
