He said the event fills the east-side park with vendors and services and that "last year, I believe they gave away about 850 backpacks." He emphasized the event serves the entire school district, not just Prospect Heights.
Pufant added that organizers were preliminarily expecting state and federal representatives to attend but that final plans were still being finalized. The department said it would have a presence at the event and that the outreach is a recurring annual effort.
