District staff reported that following rescissions or funding questions by the U.S. Department of Education, the district joined a multi‑district legal appeal to seek restoration of a mental‑health demonstration grant. "We joined that class action to see if we could go ahead and and stop the, the rescinding of the funds so that we can go through the entire course of our mental health grant, which will take us to to 2027," a staff member said.
Staff said the Department of Education’s normal fiscal cycle would allow the district to use funds through Dec. 31, 2025, while legal processes proceed, and noted a first hearing took place Aug. 15 with additional dates scheduled in September. The committee asked that the superintendent include updates in upcoming reports and suggested keeping the grant status as a standing item if court or agency action remains unresolved.
Members requested a timetable for next procedural steps and agreed staff should return with updates at the September and November meetings as litigation develops.
