Tourism director reports more than 1 million visitors in 2024; visitation and spending rise

Joni Hammer, Box Elder County tourism director, presented the annual tourism report at the commission meeting on Dec. 18, saying the county recorded more than 1,000,000 visitors in 2024 and that visitor spending rose 5% over 2023.
Hammer said top destinations include Willard Bay State Park, Golden Spike Historic Site, Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and Crystal Hot Springs. She reported that visitors spend an average of $121 at retail and $177 on transportation, that visitation is up 7% year-over-year and that Peach Days and the county fair saw notable attendance and spending increases. Hammer also previewed plans for the county fair's 100th anniversary in 2025 and emphasized partnerships with state tourism agencies.
