The commission considered three requests to forgive tax penalties and made two dispositions on Dec. 18.
The first request — from a property owner seeking forgiveness for greenbelt rollback taxes on parcels 01-0410043 and 01-0410044 — was tabled so staff can collect additional documentation. The county assessor, Rodney Bennett, told the commission that a quitclaim deed was recorded April 20, 2023, a greenbelt application was mailed Aug. 16, 2023, reminders were mailed Oct. 12, 2023 and a final notice was sent Feb. 23, 2024; the parcel was removed from greenbelt on March 31, 2024, and Bennett said no greenbelt application has been returned since Dec. 2.
Separately, George Schnerly told commissioners he did not receive a 2024 tax bill and asked that the late penalty be waived; after discussion commissioners moved to waive the penalty for a first-time occurrence and instructed him to pay the underlying taxes at the treasurer's office.
