Commission approves $615,000 in RDA funds to finish northern broadband project

The Box Elder County Commission voted unanimously to allocate $615,000 in Redevelopment Agency (RDA) funds to complete remaining broadband construction in the county's northern area. The funding is intended to finish infrastructure in the two areas identified as not complete and will be paired with a state match to complete the project.

At the meeting the commission described the funding as coming from the RDA where the new infrastructure was generated and noted the action followed an October 2 RDA meeting where the transfer was discussed. "It was going to take or what we were told is $615,000 to finish off the project," the chair said while explaining the resolution. Commissioner motioned to approve Resolution 24-15 and the commission approved it unanimously.

Commission documents presented at the meeting explained the funds will be used in the northern and central parts of the county where most RDA revenue originated. The county said this will complete the build for Bear River City and one other area that remained unfinished; the county will rely on the state match to cover the remainder of cost.

The commission made the motion to approve the RDA transfer during the regular agenda and recorded no opposing votes. Next procedural steps are for county staff to process the transfer and coordinate with the broadband contractor and state matching program to schedule final construction and closeout.
