Kathan Lake Association seeks formation of lake district to handle monitoring and projects

He said the Association — active for more than 20 years — has struggled to sustain consistent volunteer monitoring and has discussed a lake district for roughly a decade to provide a formal structure and funding mechanism for projects such as invasive‑species control.
Drake said Kathan Lake is approximately 200 acres and that petition materials have been distributed to lake property owners; he and staff outlined a tentative schedule that could bring a petition before the CUW Committee by July. Committee members and staff discussed logistical items including meeting locations, offering Zoom for better attendance in winter months, and statutory requirements that lake districts hold quarterly meetings. The Committee indicated it would recommend a county representative to the County Board if the district is formed.
